Wednesday 29th November 10.30AM GMT

This event is fully booked but will be repeated in March – click here for details.

INTRODUCTION

Join us for an in-person guided tour of the National Gallery with Art History in Focus Director and Gallery lecturer Siân Walters, including breakfast and followed by lunch.

The day will begin with tea, coffee and pastries in the Gallery’s elegant Ochre Restaurant, followed by a guided tour of both well-loved and little-known works in the National Gallery. Artists under discussion should include Raphael, Rubens, Murillo, Piero della Francesca, van Eyck and Henri Rousseau, and there will be a chance to examine recent acquisitions such as Sorolla’s “The Drunkard, Zarauz” and Bernardo Cavallino’s “Saint Bartholomew”.** There will also be discussion of framing, display and restoration, allowing for a greater understanding of how the works are presented and cared for.

After the tour, you may like to join the group for lunch. Please note, lunch is optional and not included in the price – please email us when booking to let us know if you would like to be included in the lunch reservation, including details of any food allergies/intolerances. Payment for lunch can be made on the day.

This is an in-person event and places will be limited to 25 people. Everyone is most welcome to join, although Friends of Art History in Focus have priority booking until 5 September.  Spaces on this event are strictly limited, so early booking is advisable

**Please note that the Sainsbury Wing is currently closed for renovation work. Many paintings have been redisplayed across the rest of the Gallery, but it is not possible to give an exact list of works which will be included in the tour, due to regular rehangings.
