Cultural Travels from Home: Cologne at Christmas

Monday 2nd December 6.00PM GMT

Join us for an online, festive guided walk of Cologne’s Christmas markets, with a commentary given by one of our most popular guides, Stephan, who recently led two wonderful livestream tours of Delft and Leiden for us. This evening Stephan takes us on a journey of discovery through Cologne’s 2000 years of history.

The traditional Christmas markets in Cologne first started to appear in 1820, and quickly became an annual event in the city – there are now seven totally different markets to choose from, of which we will visit two. We will learn what the festive season means to people in Cologne, exploring the ancient streets of the city and enjoying some festive fun and winter cheer. Stephan will also discuss the history of the Cathedral – the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe. The people of Cologne are so proud of this landmark that cathedral-shaped waffles are found throughout the Christmas markets. We will also discover various handcrafted treasures and learn about local culinary traditions.

Our tour is online and interactive, so you will be able to put questions to Stephan throughout the visit.
