Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers – an Exhibition Introduction

Thursday 10th October 6.00PM BST

The art of Van Gogh is celebrated in a major exhibition opening this autumn, in conjunction with the 200th anniversary of the National Gallery and the 100th anniversary of the Gallery’s acquisition of ‘Sunflowers’. Join us for an introductory lecture – participate live or watch on catch-up.

The show will feature many of the artist’s best-loved paintings from around the globe, such as ‘Starry Night over the Rhône’ and ‘The Yellow House’, focusing in particular on the years which Van Gogh spent in Arles and Saint-Rémy. There will be a number of remarkable loans including another of the artist’s ‘Sunflowers’ paintings, now at Philadelphia Museum of Art, which has not travelled outside the United States since its acquisition in 1935. This will be exhibited alongside the Gallery’s own ‘Sunflowers’ painting, offering us the first chance to see the paintings together since they were in the artist’s studio in 1889.

Our introductory, interactive talk is given by Art History in Focus director and National Gallery lecturer, Siân Walters.
