Artist in Focus: GiottoMonday 19th June 6.00PM BST
Join Art History in Focus director Siân Walters for an exploration of the life and work of Giotto di Bondone, often described as the father of Italian Renaissance painting. Our survey of his career will look at works produced in Florence, Assisi, Rome and Padua, which represent a major turning point in Western painting. But why was this? Together we will examine what exactly makes Giotto’s art so innovative, exploring not only his radical approach to pictorial space and execution but also story-telling, whereby perhaps for the first time in Western Art, people could witness their own emotions and experiences in the scenes depicted before them.
