Art History in Focus is a tour and event company founded by art historian and lecturer Siân Walters, specialising in cultural tours, courses, study days and lectures. Siân is a highly qualified and experienced tutor and events organiser and lectures regularly for The National Gallery, The Wallace Collection, The Arts Society, The Art Fund, Friends of the Royal Academy and many other galleries, colleges and arts societies. She was a lecturer at Surrey University for many years and in 2016 was named a Highly Commended finalist in the World’s Best Guide Awards. Siân was honoured to be asked to teach the first online course for The National Gallery (Stories of Art) in September 2020 as well as the first online course given by The Wallace Collection in July 2020. She also gave the first Zoom lecture for The Arts Society.
In March 2020 we launched a series of online lectures and courses, followed by a programme of online tours and visits abroad entitled Cultural Travels from Home. These include visits by special arrangement to a number of major European art galleries allowing virtual access to their collections, from the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice to the Brera Art Gallery in Milan. We are proud to have devised and presented the world’s first ever livestream tours of the Basilica of San Marco in Venice, the Medici Palace in Florence, the Basilica of St Francis in Assisi, the Ca’ Rezzonico in Venice, the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum in Milan, the Palazzo Colonna in Rome, the Palazzo Baldeschi in Perugia and very many more. We are delighted to have developed these collaborations which continue to raise important funds for the galleries and cultural sites as well as those working in the cultural sector.
“It was a fantastic experience … a new vision about the museum! I hope to repeat such an exciting event!” Dr Gabriella Belli, Director, Fondazione Musei Civici, Venice.
Art History in Focus also arranges tailor-made visits and lectures for individuals and groups. Consider a private guided tour of an exhibition for you and your friends, or consider exploring the artistic treasures of great cities with a specialist guide at your side, as in the days of the Grand Tour. Events are ideal for all levels of interest, and tours are structured and stimulating but informal at the same time. Art History in Focus holidays are unique in that every trip is especially planned in order to include more unusual elements such as private viewings, exclusive guest lectures and visits to lesser-known sights. Accommodation is carefully chosen and evenings are always sociable and convivial, as a special emphasis is placed on sampling local wines and dishes in good restaurants.
