In-Person Event: A Private Tour of Spencer House, London

Monday 20th May 11.00AM BST

INTRODUCTION

Join us for an exclusive, private guided tour of one of London’s most elegant buildings and its stunning art collection.

Spencer House was commissioned in 1756 for John, later First Earl, Spencer and his wife Georgiana, nee Poyntz. The building was designed by John Vardy in the Palladian style, and created not only as a family home but a venue for entertaining and the display of their important art collection. In 1990 the building was officially reopened by the late Diana, Princess of Wales, a direct descendant of the First Earl and Countess Spencer, following an extensive period of restoration.

Our private guided tour will include a visit to the eight State Rooms, where we learn more about the history of the house and its famous occupants over the years. We will admire the many masterpieces of sculpture, furniture and painting, including works by Antonio Canova, Jacob van Ruisdael, Antonio Joli and Benjamin West. The tour will be led by Lindsay MacLeod, who is also a specialist guide at The British Museum and The Houses of Parliament.

Refreshments will be served in the Dining Room before the tour begins.

Please advise us by email of any food allergies or intolerances when booking.

Please also let us know if you have any accessibility requirements  – please note that the availability of seating is limited throughout the house.

This is an in-person event. Everyone is most welcome to join.

Spaces on this event are strictly limited, so early booking is advisable
