Professor Suzannah Lipscomb: A Short History of Henry VIII’s Queens in Art

Monday 30th January 6.00PM GMT

INTRODUCTION

We are delighted to welcome Professor Suzannah Lipscomb as our guest speaker on 30th January, for a lecture entitled A Short History of Henry VIII’s Queens in Art.

The six women married to Henry VIII are some of the most famous women in history and, yet, the story of their portraiture is amazingly contested. Questions exist whether four of them are actually the women we think they are and, of the two whose identities in art are certain, there are questions over provenance and accuracy. By investigating how and why they show up in portraits – and don’t – Professor Lipscomb offers a lively, alternative history of these Tudor queens.
